YOUNG LIFE GENESEE COUNTY

INVITING YOUNG PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE LIFE THE WAY GOD DESIGNED IT TO BE

Who We Are

1964

Young Life begins in Genesee County.

The late businessman Woody Skaff spearheaded Young Life in our community 60 years ago, launching the second high school mission in Michigan. He asked colleagues, friends and family to support the effort - on behalf of unchurched kids who had not yet had an opportunity to be introduced to Jesus Christ. Many of his colleagues joined him including Genesee Merchants Bank & Trust President William Piper and Vice President Harry Piper, and Homer Dowdy and Frank Manley of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Their financial contributions played a crucial role in the success of the initiative.

Since its inception, Young Life has relied on the vision and generosity of local businesses, foundations, churches, and individuals. A large portion of our funding for mentoring experiences is generated through a single annual fundraiser held in May. We are actively working to diversify our funding sources by exploring multiple opportunities within the communities we serve.

Our committed Young Life staff and volunteers work tirelessly each day to bring hope to four middle and high schools in Genesee County. Our outreach efforts encompass a diverse group of pre-teens and teens from various backgrounds, attending schools such as Fenton, Flint, Grand Blanc, and Lake Fenton. We strive to make a positive impact on the lives of these young individuals, regardless of their circumstances.

100s

kids currently impacted by Young Life

Most of our volunteer leaders are engaged adults from the county serving as role models for 100s of youth well beyond our middle and high school borders. We continually recruit and train volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of teenagers. We remain committed to expanding our reach and enhancing our support for even more youth in our area.
